Blackbird skull (Turdus merula): Oxfordshire: This skull was found by my youngest son, Felix, who knows how much I like skulls! It was lying in a hedgerow, as bleached and clean as it is in the photograph. Bird skulls are so fascinating; pared down to the absolute minimum to save weight and beautifully evolved to suit the particular ecological niche in which the bird lives.
