Giant Eagle Owl Skull (Bubo lacteus) : I found this skull in the Northern Cape region of South Africa while filming meerkats. It is a fantastic structure, an example of inseparable form and function – the oversized orbits to house the huge, forward facing, eyes and that viciously sharp recurved beak leave little doubt as to what this bird has evolved to feed on.
Whenever the meerkats spotted one – even if it was snoozing in a tree at midday – they would disintegrate into a flustered chaos of alarm calls and panic.
