Teasle 2

Teasle 2

Product Description

Teasle (Dipsacus fullonum): The dried seed head of the teasle resmble some sort of hideous medieval weapon. But as always with natural forms, they are perfectly evolved for their function; to protect the precious seeds they contain from seed predators but make them available for dispersal by ‘hitchhiking’ on passing animals.

The dried heads were once used to ‘tease’ wollen cloth – hence the name, the seeds are a preferred food source of the Goldfinch; one of my absolute favorite birds.
